What is a wish? A desire? A hope? Or both?
According to almost every known dictionary, a wish is a desire or hope for something to happen. Well, we have to add to the aforementioned explanation that a wish is something more; it is a part of every human’s personality. Think about yourself and how often do you wish for something. We assure you that even now; you might be wishing that you weren’t reading this page.
Most of us, we have connected the action of wish with a well-known fairy tale, Aladdin, from the Book of One Thousand and One Nights. Please, let us refresh your memory. Aladdin was an impoverished young man, who under the orders of a sorcerer retrieved an oil lamp from a magic cave. When Aladdin took the oil lamp back to his house, his mother tried to clean it, when, suddenly, a powerful genie appeared before them ready to do the bidding of the person holding the lamp. Then, the genie told Aladdin that he only had 3 wishes to make. Using his wishes, Aladdin became rich and powerful and married the woman he loved.
In real life, though, there are no genies and no magical oil lamps. Ordinary people, like you and us, wish and ordinary people, like you and us again, “grant” wishes. There is no magic here but the good will and faith of people in helping others. And from this last phrase, our basic questions behind the creation of Wishdone were derived: Social networking activities have become an establishment in the current Web 2.0 environment. But, has the Internet reached the point where through social networking, people can get their wishes “granted”? Can we make a difference in this world through a web community? Can we evolve to the persons we have always wished we were? Can we achieve real personal growth through the Internet?
This is Wishdone’s bet. Are you ready to place your bids?
